Fun Friday Winner 04-25-15 - Landscape Photography

This photograph was submitted by SueEllen Ainsley. The photograph was taken in Haywood County, North Carolina. It captures the beautiful mountains that can be found throughout Western North Carolina. The photograph captures the contrast of the clouds above the mountains and small glimmers of sun coming them. This type of photography can be difficult to capture. There are a lot of factors that go into getting the right landscape picture but, the right place and the right time sure can be a help. Landscape photographers often scout a location for months at a time to find the right conditions for the picture they are trying to get. A good weather app and some good hiking shoes can yield some amazing results. The best way to get good pictures is to take lots of them. So, get outside and go exploring and take some pictures.

Thanks for your time! God Bless!

Bird Photo

Our #FunFriday Nature Photography winner for the week of April 10 is a beautiful image of a bird. This image has nice composition with the bird being placed near the center of the image. The contrast of the bird against the background helps it pop out among the other objects in the image. This image has a deep depth of field. What that means is that more objects in the image are in focus. When an image has a foreground object like the bird in focus and everything directly behind it is out of focus this is called shallow depth of field. Depth of field can be used to hide objects that may distract from the object that the photographer wants the viewer to focus on. This is common in macro photography. You can take images like this with decent camera and the right opportunity. Go out into nature and see what you can find. Have questions or tips? Post them in the comments below.

Candid Dog Photo

Fun Friday – Candid Photography Winner 04-03-2015

Fun Friday - Candid Phottography

Fun Friday winner SueEllen Ainsley’s candid picture of her dog pinky wins this weeks challenge. We chose this image because it depicts a great example of candid photography. The dog in this photo is just chillin’ and watching something in the distance. There is almost a sense of wonder if the eyes of the dog as she stares into the distance. This photo was taken with a cell phone on a summer afternoon.

Candid photography can capture emotion, feeling, and action without the subject even knowing that it is happening. This is what makes this type of photography so powerful. Like the images seen in the days following 911. Images of great men and women committing courageous acts without regard to their own safety. With the advancement of cell phone imaging technology almost everyone can snap a picture or shoot a video in a instant. So, go out take some photos and have fun! You may capture the next viral photo or video.
